Privacy Policy
The short version
zTab is private by default: your private homepage data is visible only to your account or trusted device. We take intellectual property and user privacy seriously.
- Your private Views, drafts, shortcuts and uploaded backgrounds stay confidential unless you share them yourself.
- Notes and Tasks are end-to-end encrypted: zTab receives ciphertext, never your text, and does not store your PIN or plaintext key.
- Bookmark sync stays off until you switch it on. Once on, section 4 says exactly what is stored and what an AI provider receives.
- You can request account deletion at any time, and the retention windows below say how long each kind of data is kept.

zTab is designed to be private by default. Your private tabs, drafts, personal shortcuts, and uploaded backgrounds are kept strictly confidential and are not publicly accessible unless explicitly shared by you.
2. Information We Collect
We collect essential data to operate the service, including basic Google profile info (email), tab configurations, uploaded files, and trusted device records. We do not track your browsing history or sell your personal data to third parties.
3. End-to-End Encrypted Notes and Tasks
For Notes and Tasks, zTab receives encrypted ciphertext rather than plaintext content. We can still process account, device, timestamps, revisions, ciphertext size, synchronization status and security/operational logs needed to run the service. PINs and plaintext data keys are not stored by zTab. Shortcuts, Pet and ordinary widget state are server-readable but remain restricted to the owner, paired Extensions and trusted Private View browsers; they are excluded from Community snapshots. 4. Bookmarks, AI Summaries and Ask zTab
Bookmark sync is off until you turn it on and pair a browser. Once on, zTab stores the bookmarks you chose to sync — titles, addresses, folder paths, your own tags and notes, and how often you open them — under your account, readable only by you and the devices you have paired. AI summaries and Ask zTab are processed by an AI provider under contract to zTab: the page text collected for a summary, your bookmark titles and addresses, and the questions you ask leave our servers to reach it. Answers are drawn from your own bookmarks and nothing else, and neither questions nor bookmarks are used to train models. A summary derived from a publicly reachable page may be reused by other accounts that saved the same address; anything private — your titles, folders, tags, notes, questions and answers — never is. Turning enrichment off stops new summaries. Deleting a bookmark, deleting the server copy, unpairing a device or closing your account removes the stored bookmark and the summary derived from it. The dead-link checker contacts the sites you bookmarked only while you have switched it on, and reports nothing about them back to zTab.
5. User Responsibility and User Content
While we protect your account data, you are responsible for the privacy implications of the content you choose to upload or add to your tabs. Please be cautious when uploading personal images or information. zTab is not liable for data exposures resulting from your own content choices. Protect your PIN, recovery key and trusted devices. Resetting encrypted storage can permanently delete data, and revoking a device cannot erase data that it already decrypted.
6. Community Sharing
When you choose to publish a design to the Community, zTab automatically sanitizes the snapshot. Personal shortcut URLs, precise location data, and private upload references are stripped to ensure your privacy is maintained in public galleries.
7. Legal Compliance and Data Deletion
We reserve the right to access, preserve, and disclose your information if required by law or to protect zTab against legal claims. You can request account deletion at any time, which will initiate the removal of your data from our active systems.
Retention summary
Predictable windows, not silent deletion.
- Free private tabs are warned after about 23 inactive days.
- Free private tabs are soft-deleted after about 30 inactive days.
- Soft-deleted tabs remain recoverable from Dashboard for about 7 days.
- Anonymous tabs expire after about 7 days unless claimed into an account.
- Installed/offline View snapshots can be used offline for up to 7 days before reconnect is required.
- Deleting the server copy of your bookmarks removes their AI summaries and keywords with them.
- Summaries built by an earlier AI prompt are cleared when the prompt changes, then rebuilt from scratch.
